To do list 1

Got the sketchbooks I will need yesterday, a list of things I plan to do for the next 7 days are:

- Write a brief description of my project (project Aim) and start to make a list of deliverables considering all the time constraints. (subject to change)

- Try and decide on a research question

- Start initial research/ start filling sketchbook with inspiration images

I'm going to start with small steps to start with, making sure to brainstorm all areas of research to cover (if need be these areas can be refined) starting with researching my target audience.

Research Question

I have just thought of a research question... It may change, but at least it's a start.

'Can interaction and virtual reality technology enhance the way you think about advertisement messages?'

- Or does the idea of virtual emotion only remain 'Virtual'?

As I said this question may change depending on the feedback I get.

And so it begins...

Over the summer I have tried to come up with ideas for my honours project. I tried to think of a project that would challenge the mind, and the imagination. Over the past week I have refined the ideas I have, and wanted to make sure I could complete the project within the time constraints.

I have decided to use an idea from previous years that was developed through script and a short animation that was then locked away at the back of mind, always planning to use it at some point in the future.

Now that I have more experience within 3D animation, I plan to redo this animaton developing it again from scratch thinking about the engagement between the character, environment, and the viewer/user, which will also advertise an important message... Are YOU a BULLY?.

What I think will make this project more interesting to investigate is the idea of character stimulation within virtual reality technology, whereby enhancing the emotion between the character and the viewer/user. I also want to explore the idea of interaction within the actual animation itself.. allowing the user/viewer to control what happens. These ideas have been used in different ways, and this will be the start of my investigation.

The animation will show the journey of a character from child to old man which is the victim of a bully that haunts him throughout his life. The aspect of bullying is something that affects everyones life at some point or another, which is why I would love to produce a prototype that would target anyone from 10+ to advertise a message to anyone who has bullyed someone or is thinking about it.

The bigger picture is obviously the stimulation of virtual reality, and the idea of the viewer/user being able to step into the Victim or the bullys shoes.. my output will be an animation with simple flash programming as a result of my investigation of bigger ideas. Could this actually change the way people think about bullying? and could it be used as part of various advertisement campaigns like global warming and rape?

Even thinking about the possibilities makes me eager to get started on this project.... watch this space :-)

Now I just need to think about turning all these ideas into one research question.
