In sketchbook 1, I am continuing to research into different visual styles, and studying these, and experimenting, to help my form ideas for sketchbook 2. I'm creating 3 concepts with the visual styles I liked the most from sketchbook 1. I think this is a very effective way of forming ideas, before moving on to make the final character model and expression sheets. It also shows where your inspiration, and possible ideas have came from.
